Award at the AGU Fall Meeting 2022

The doctoral student Sofia Michail was awarded the Outstanding Student Presentation Award (OSPA) at the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting 2022, December 12-16 in Chicago, IL.

Their research is entitled “Laboratory Observations Linking Fault Surface Characteristics to the Onset and Evolution of Frictional Sliding and Off-fault Damage”. The external page OSPA is awarded only for the upper 2-5% presenters and their oral presentation was recognised for their observations of non uniform pre-slip with DSS measurements in experiments conducted in the LabQuake rock deformation apparatus. Their research is quite important to further understand earthquake nucleation.
